"I want to start off by thanking the entire team for all their attentiveness and patience. Carmen made the paperwork effortless and took the x-rays faster than anyone I've ever seen. Monica took great impressions for my whitening and initial pano was comfy. Dr. K is a sweetheart and I've found my dental home and will definitely refer my loved ones to her. There an amazing group of people. Price was reasonable as well for my cleaning, fluoride and home whitening trays. I'll be seeing them next week for a follow-up, see y'all soon! I called back to offer the girls breakfast or lunch for the whole team, just because it's COVID-19 season doesn't mean people can't show some love 😊"- A.M. / Google / Jun 26, 2020

Orthodontic treatment with traditional braces is uniquely planned for each individual. The system uses wires, brackets, and bands made of high-grade metal to apply gentle pressure and move teeth through the jawbone into their ideal places in your smile. To achieve proper tooth position, the archwires attach to the bands and brackets bonded to the teeth and are changed out incrementally as needed. Bite misalignment and other orthodontic conditions can interfere with your ability to smile confidently, bite and chew comfortably, and speak with ease. Correcting these issues can improve overall oral function, achieve an attractive facial profile, and straighten the teeth for enhanced cosmetic appeal.
Katy, TX patients of any age may be an ideal candidate for traditional metal braces, including younger kids who need phased treatment and older adults who never had the chance to wear braces in their earlier years. Our team is ready to work with you or your family member and help you achieve a healthy, straight, and beautiful smile if braces are ideal for your needs.
Traditional metal braces can correct many types of orthodontic and alignment problems, including:
• Gapped teeth or crowded teeth
• Rotated or crooked teeth
• Tipped or protruding teeth
• Crossbite and open bite
• Underbite and overbite
What to Expect
An orthodontic consultation with our Made Ya Smile Team in Katy, TX can help you and your loved ones determine if traditional metal braces are your best option. 3D cone beam images of your teeth, jawbone, head, and face will be taken along with molds (impressions) of your lower and upper teeth. We will use this information to evaluate your specific needs and gain an in-depth understanding of your bite and how your teeth fit together. Once your plan is in place and you are ready to begin treatment, the surfaces of your teeth will be cleaned and your brackets will be attached with tooth-colored or clean cement. When the brackets are all in place, a metal archwire will be threaded and attached to each bracket with a gray or colored elastic tie, completing placement of your metal braces. Monthly appointments will be scheduled for you so that our team can monitor your progress and change your archwire when necessary to incrementally achieve your desired orthodontic results. If you have any questions or concerns about your care throughout the process of straightening your smile, please get in touch with our team as soon as possible.
Keeping up with a great home care routine while you are wearing metal braces is critical to the health of your teeth and gums. The brackets, wires, and bands provide numerous areas for plaque, bacteria, and food to accumulate. To reduce the risk of tooth decay and gum infection secondary to wearing braces, we encourage you to brush and floss after each time that you eat and keep up with routine dental cleanings and exams at Made Ya Smile as recommended by Dr. LeQuang. We will be sure to show you the best method of flossing and brushing for braces and will point out any areas that need extra attention during each of your cleaning visits.
Since every patient's orthodontic needs are different, the treatment time for wearing braces may vary but typically ranges from about 1 – 3 years. During your orthodontic visits, our Made Ya Smile team will check your progress to determine if you are still on target with tooth movement and give you an idea of how long your treatment with braces may last. When your teeth have moved to their final position and the active phase of your orthodontic treatment plan is complete, your band, brackets, and wires will be removed and an impression of your teeth will then be taken. This new impression will be used by our lab to create your custom orthodontic retainer. To keep your teeth properly aligned and maintain your end results, it is very important that you wear your retainer as recommended by our team. Doing so can help keep your smile straight and balanced and protect the investment you have made in your oral health.
It is not uncommon to have a bracket pop off or a wire comes loose when wearing traditional orthodontic braces. Avoiding crunchy, sticky, or hard foods can often help minimize the chance of experiencing an orthodontic emergency. Please call our Made Ya Smile team in Katy, TX as soon as possible if you or your child has any type of emergency with your braces. Common orthodontic concerns can often be managed in the following ways until you are able to visit for a repair:
-Loose Orthodontic Appliance: Orthodontic appliances, such as space maintainers or fixed retainers, that become loose need to be treated our team as soon as possible. You can use orthodontic wax to hold a loose appliance in place until you are able to have it reattached by our team.
-Loose or Dislodged Bracket or Band: A bracket or band that become unattached from the teeth and causes discomfort can be stabilized with orthodontic wax or sugarless gum. In most cases, these loose components can be left as they are until you are able to schedule a visit for a repair.
-Loose Archwire: Tweezers, a pencil eraser, or a Q-tip can be used to gently push a loose wire into place. You can also clip the sire with wire cutters or nail clipper cleaned with alcohol to cut the wire behind its attachment or cover the end of a loose wire with orthodontic wax or sugarless gum.
-Tooth or Jaw Discomfort: Most patients experience some tooth or jaw discomfort initially after having their braces placed and whenever the wires are changed. Over-the-counter pain medication can often provide comfort when this occurs. If your gums are inflamed, warm salt water rinses may provide relief.
-Poking or Sharp Wire: Wires that break or become loose can irritate or cause discomfort to your lips, bums, tongue, and cheeks. If possible, you can cut the wire with disinfected wire cutters or nail clippers behind the tooth to which it is attached. You can also cover the sharp area with orthodontic wax or sugarless gum.
Serious injuries to mouth or face should be treated first in the emergency room or by your medical doctor.
