What Are Lumineers?
Enjoying a bright and beautiful smile is something that our team here at Made Ya Smile in Katy, TX wants to help every patient achieve. Lumineers® is a simple yet highly effective cosmetic procedure that instantly transforms the smile into one of beauty, balance, and high-end aesthetics, without the prep work of other cosmetic dentistry solutions. Largely regarded as the gold standard in cosmetic veneers, Lumineers are super-thin shells of porcelain that are only about 0.2mm in thickness (similar to that of a contact lens). These high-grade restorations are attached to the front teeth to instantly whiten and balance the smile for enhanced cosmetic appeal. Though similar in concept to porcelain veneers, Lumineers do not require any tooth enamel removal in order to customize and place these restorations. Lumineers are revered for their durability and a natural translucency mimicking that of tooth enamel. A consultation with our skilled cosmetic dentist can help you decide if Lumineers are right for transforming your smile.

Who Is a Candidate for Lumineers?
If you are looking to achieving a straighter, whiter, and more uniform smile without the prep work of porcelain veneers, Lumineers may be a great solution for you. These wear-resistant, durable cosmetic restorations are custom designed and bond right over teeth that show in your smile zone. For Lumineers to serve your smile best, however, the underlying teeth and surrounding gum tissues should be in good health and free from disease. Your teeth should also be in proper alignment to minimize the risk of damaging your restorations. If you grind your teeth while you sleep, Lumineers may not be the best option for your smile. During your consultation, our dentist can examine your teeth and discuss your cosmetic goals and help you choose the best option for your smile.
Lumineers are great for hiding a wide range of cosmetic issues and are typically placed in pairs to achieve a balanced and even look. Often regarded as "instant orthodontics," Lumineers are great for masking gapped and slightly crowded or crooked teeth but do not actually move the teeth in any way. If you have more severe bite issues or misalignment, orthodontics may be a better treatment option at this time. However, Lumineers are also ideal for quickly correcting many cases of short or misshapen teeth, tooth discoloration or stain, and uneven biting edges or chipped teeth.
How Do Lumineers Work?
Lumineers are completed within two easy trips to our Katy, TX dental practice. Having these custom, minimal-prep veneers placed transforms your smile without the need for local anesthetic or tooth reduction, making it a simple, comfortable, and non-invasive process. On your first visit, we will take impressions of your upper and lower teeth, which our special Lumineers lab will use to create your custom cosmetic veneers. Lumineers are made of very thin pieces of high-grade porcelain. Our dentist will design the size, shape, and length of each of your Lumineers and help you choose the ideal shade for your new smile. We will then send specific instructions to our lab to craft your restorations. Since we will not need to remove any tooth structure to prepare for your Lumineers, you will not have to wear temporary restorations while your Lumineers are being made, a process that only takes around 1 – 2 weeks. When your restorations arrive at our office, we will bring you back in for your second and final visit. Our dentist will use a high-tech bonding material to permanently attach your Lumineers to your comfort to your teeth while taking special steps to maintain the integrity of the underlying teeth.
How Can I Care for My Lumineers?
There is virtually no recovery time associated with the Lumineers process, given that our dentist will not need to prepare your teeth by removing tooth structure to place your veneers. Patients typically do not experience any tooth sensitivity to discomfort when having Lumineers placed. Once you leave our office, you are ready to start enjoying your white, straight smile. Lumineers are very durable and resistant stain and wear. To keep them in the best shape possible, however, it is best to avoid biting on hard objects like fingernails, ice, and pens. When cared for in the best way, your new Lumineers can last as long as 20 years. Like your natural tooth surfaces, Lumineers require daily flossing and brushing to maintain their luster and to keep surrounding teeth and gums healthy. Our team will continually check your Lumineers and make sure they are still strong and securely attached to your teeth at each of your bi-annual cleaning and exam visit at our friendly family dental practice.
Are Lumineers Covered by Dental Insurance?
Given that Lumineers are a cosmetic and elective treatment option, these restorations are typically not covered by dental insurance. Our team will talk with you before starting your procedure to let you know about your treatment costs. Our team at Made Ya Smile in Katy, TX takes a number of convenient payment options and is happy to work with you in finding a financial solution that meets your treatment desires and matches your budget. To help cover the cost of your Lumineers, we may be able to assist you in securing a low- or no-interest financing plan through CareCredit®.
